Poster Boy’s first crop is well represented at the first Nutrien sale of the year, with these quality lots bound for Sydney and going through the ring on Sunday 5 March.
LOT 26 – a filly from BURN BACK (Safely Kept) This is the first Poster Boy filly to be sold at a yearling sale in Australia and is an attractive, neat package. She looks to be a ready-made two-year-old type and is from a family in which the females have excelled. This is always a good sign when shopping for a filly. If she inherits some of the ability of her third dam, Casey Otara, she could be a real Stakes filly. Casey Otara was a genuine star at Gloucester Park in the 1980s, beating the best of both the females and males in WA at that time. Casey Otara’s third foal, Son of Otara, was the inaugural winner of the APG 2YO Final and the Australian Two-Year-Old Pacer of the Year, so there is juvenile speed in the family. This Lot 26 is eligible for all the major Stakes races including the NSW Breeders Challenge and Vicbred. |
LOT 40 – a filly from DELDECREE (Mach Three) This filly is a tall, strongly-built filly with some interesting crosses of blood - 2 X 3 to Mach Three and 4 X 4 to Abercrombie. Based on this, she should inherit a good drop of speed [Mach Three] and soundness and durability from Abercrombie - ideal traits to inherit. Her dam Deldecree showed some decent ability in her brief race career, running home in 56.7 in her one win from two starts. Her three-quarter sister No Motive has now taken a 1:53.8 record and won five races. This is a family that can deliver a Stakes calibre juvenile performer such as Courage To Rule (1:51.1), Make The Rules (1:51.6) and Starship (TT1:54.5), so this Poster Boy filly could very easily add her name to that list. |
LOT 57 – a colt from FRANKINCENSE (Betterthancheddar) This boy, born just short of Christmas Day, is a first foal of an eight-times winning mare who showed serious ability in Victoria as a three- and four-year-old. Poster Boy, the sire of this colt, is a son of Somebeachsomewhere who has had enormous success over Bettors Delight mares in both hemispheres. It is an added bonus that this colt is from a mare by Betterthancheddar, the best siring son of Bettors Delight. This pedigree is laden with Stakes winning horses of both sexes - but here is a clue to put this colt on your shopping list - you will see that the highest earning horse on the catalogue page is a son of Somebeachsomewhere - as is Poster Boy, this colt’s sire. Once again, eligible for all the major Stakes races including NSW Breeders Challenge, Vicbred and Bathurst Gold Crown. |
LOT 74 – a colt from HIGHVIEW ARIA (In The Pocket) Lot 74 is a strong, attractive colt that will turn some heads when parading at the Sales Complex on Miracle Mile weekend. When looking at the pedigree page in the catalogue an immediate flashing sign of success is evident - the 3 X 4 cross to Artsplace. Such is the influence of the legendary Artsplace that he is now appearing on a regular basis with double doses in the pedigrees of Australian Group One winners. Horses such as Expensive Ego, Spirit of St Louis, Jewel Melody, and both the Derby and Oaks winners in WA last season are recent examples. Bearing in mind that this colt is by Poster Boy, a Direct Scooter line stallion, have a look at his catalogue page - you will find quite a few $100,000 and $200,000 winners sired by grandsons of Direct Scooter. That’s a healthy sign. |
LOT 189 – a colt from ROCKIN DIVA (Rocknroll Hanover) A colt who has the breeding to succeed. His first four dams are all by leading stallions – Rocknroll Hanover, Presidential Ball, Thor Hanover and Aachen so there are no weak links in his genetic makeup. The Somebeachsomewhere sireline, either himself or his sons, have had amazing success being bred over the Western Ideal/Western Hanover sireline mares and Lot 189 fits this mould perfectly. Poster Boy was a ready-made two-year-old who strung together seven consecutive wins at that age including a GROUP 1 Vicbred Final and Victorian Tatlow and Youthful Stakes. Rocknroll Hanover was the first two-year-old in history to record a sub-1:50 win and Presidential Ball was voted the USTA Two-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year in 1992. So early juvenile speed abounds in this colt’s pedigree and he is built to run early. Eligible for Vicbred, NSW Breeders Challenge and all the major Stakes races. |
